When I was a child, I was a huge fan of Tales from the Riverbank, a TV series shown on the BBC. It told the stories of Hammy the Hamster, Roderick the Rat and GP the Guinea Pig. It was utterly charming and I must have sat in front of the telly in rapt attention of the shenanigans of Hammy and his friends. It's a precious memory made potent by the lustrous tones of Johnny Morris' quiet and sincere rendition of the characters own voices. He brought them to life for me and no doubt, millions of others. I thought about 'The Tales' as i painted this.
